Working at a college has its perks

Working at a college means I am off a lot in the summer. This starts with the month of may.

Prayer and places I pray

One thing I am finding as I get older (52), for some reason it is harder to focus during prayer. I have been working on this, but itis a little alarming to lose focus during a prayer.

In traveling the area, I will often stop for a driving break at a church or its chapel for a prayer. one of my favorite places to stop (while traveling) is the new redesigned St Ann-Bartlett TN http://www.stannbartlett.org/ (Fr Bruce did a GREAT job with the church design there), and St Henry's http://www.sthenry.org/ in Nashville TN.

When I worked in Memphis, I often went to St Pat's http://www.stpatsmemphis.org to Pray.

Both St Ann & St Henry have chapels open all day.

Last month, I stopped at the (new to me) St Mary's Savannah for a prayer, while working at the College (that I work for) Savannah center. Regrettably, I missed Fr Tom (he was at St Joe after they moved it to Neely Road location), but I will catch him next time.

Retreat centers that I have visited include: Subiaco' Coury House next to Subiaco Academy in Arkansas http://www.subi.org/couryhouse.htm and St. Bernard Abbey's Boniface Hall http://www.stbernardabbey.com/abbey/index.html .

Another interesting prayer stop is St Frances de Sales/Rosary Chapel with the Rosary Chapel being a storefront church http://www.stfrancisdesales.org/. The Chapel at OHare Airport http://www.ohareairportchapel.org is a great place to meditate in prayer. The Prudental Tower in Boston has the St. Frances Chapel. It is a store/office-front Church http://www.stfrancischapel.org/main.shtml . Great place to Pray.

Fats Waller - Ain't Misbehavin'

This is a great song. I can remember Reginald Lavelle Johnson singing this on the TODAY SHOW as Fats Waller. Nell Carter was also singing and did a great song, Mean To Me.

From that moment I loved Jazz!

Fats Waller - Ain't Misbehavin'

No one to talk with.
All by myself.
No one to walk with,
But I'm happy
On the shelf.
Ain't misbehavin',
I'm savin' my love for you.
I know for certain
The one I love.
I'm through with flirtin',
It's you that I'm thinkin' of.
Ain't misbehavin'.
I'm savin' my love for you.
Like Jack Horner
In the corner.
Don't go nowhere.
What do I care?
Your kissesAre worth waitin' for,
Believe me.I don't stay out late,
Don't care to go.
I'm home about eight,
Just me and my radio.
Ain't misbehavin',
I'm savin' my love for you.

Thursday is not a bad day of the week

You can tell we as a working society live for Friday.. Thursday is the second best day of the week!

Diagnostic and statistical Manual of Mental Disorders

The Diagnostic and statistical Manual of Mental Disorders is the bible of therapy. This is the resource that allows therapists to categorize diagnosis in to common types. The first edition I used (in 1980) was the DSM III with 494 pages. The most recent one (DSM IV-TR) has 942 pages. Doubling the number of pages in itself comments on the complexities of determining a mental disorder. This also shows how difficult the profession of counseling has evolved in the last 25 years.

If anyone reading this is thinking of training to be a counselor, please do do. It is a rewarding field of work.
