This is the place of the musings of a first generation college graduate, a 12 year catholic student survivor, and guy who grew up in Memphis Tennessee discusses things that interest the common folk.
I am a true midpoint Tarus. I am a college counselor and teach a college readiness course called Learning Strategies.
I graduated from Bishop Byrne High School. I guess one could say I survived, but as I got older I became amazed at the people I knew from high school. They actually are the best and most talented bunch of people have ever known. I If I could stop and talk to any of them, I would perfer that to any other individual out there.
Last saturday I went to St Matt's in Milan and bought their BBQ chicken. It appears to be a real nice parish with an active group of parishioners. The chicken was good.
The guy who installed the doors at my house attends Milan, and he told me about the BBQ chicken. It is to fund youth programs for the parish
I would guess maybe 70 families are actually in the parish.
but then again, its hard to tell the number. So many people swap between Holy Family (Huntingdon), St Matts (Milan), and Sacred Heart (Humboldt)...Plus a lot of Jackson people go to Milan or Humboldt. Personally, I really love to hit that 4:00 pm Saturday evening mass at Sacred Heart. Father Joel (Schultz) has a real folksy way that works well in the area. His strength (in addition to his warmth) appears to be the spanish masses (he has two in addition to the 3 english masses with the two spanish masses located in Humboldt) in Humboldt and the youth groups at Humboldt and Milan. I believe Fr Joel went trhough the same intensive program Dennis is going through.
I sure hope you get an opportunity to work a summer at St Matthew, or Sacred Heart or at my parish St Mary's in Jackson. St Mary's is the opposite end of the spectrum (of rural churches) as being a parish with 900 families! It is truly a large parish. I am impressed with Fr Mickey and his efforts to make the parish more cohesive.
